Prediction of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Acute Ischemic Stroke (PRAISE-DZHK19 I DZNEB001)
In many patients with an acute stroke, there are already early indications of damage to the heart during the first few hours and days. This is proven, for example, by measuring the blood value of troponin, which is used as a standard in heart attack diagnostics. Around 30 percent of all patients with acute stroke have elevated troponin levels in their blood. Mortality is increased in these patients. However, it is not yet clear how these patients can best be treated. It is known from preliminary work that around 25 percent of stroke patients with elevated troponin levels have an acute coronary artery disease requiring treatment.
The aim of the study PRAISE-DZHK19 I DZNEB001 (PRediction of Acute coronary syndrome In acute ischemic StrokE) is to establish a clinical algorithm that enables the prediction of acute coronary syndrome or a heart attack in stroke patients. The results of the study will influence the guidelines for the treatment of acute stroke and acute coronary syndrome.
The study will be conducted under the direction of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and is the first cooperation between the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) and the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). The two German health research centers are funding the study over four years with around one million euros.
