In the Journal of the American College of Cardiology the authors report on a registry study conducted at the DZHK partner site Munich with the participation of the German Heart Centre Munich, the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar München and the Klinikum der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. In a cohort of 7,095 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) the researchers examined to what extent high platelet reactivity under aspirin treatment, measured by means of platelet function tests, influences clinical outcome. The study showed that high platelet reactivity under aspirin treatment, as measured at the time of coronary intervention, was associated with a higher risk of death or stent thrombosis at the endpoint. According to the authors, the data indicate that this value should be added to existing panels of established prognostic biomarkers for patients undergoing PCI in order to improve the risk stratification for this patient cohort.
