  • Prof. Rabea Hinkel (DPZ) and Prof. Thomas Eschenhagen (UKE) received  710,000 and 780,000 Euros as partners of the new EU network REANIMA dedicated to stimulation of cardiac regeneration. More

October 2019

  • Prof. Dr. Tanja Zeller and Prof. Dr. Stefan Blankenberg (University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf), together with the University Hospital Zurich, have raised 12.5 million euros from the Kühne Foundation for Germany's largest research project on genome decoding. The aim is to better understand the causes of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Prof. Dr. Sonja Schrepfer, University Heart and Vascular Centre of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), has been awarded the Galenus von Pergamon Prize for her stem cell research in the field of transplantation medicine. The prize, awarded by Springer Medizin, is endowed with 10,000 euros.
  • Prof. Dr. Heribert Schunkert from the German Heart Centre Munich (DHM) has been awarded the Franz Loogen Prize 2019. It is awarded by the German Cardiac Society (DGK) during Annual Autumn Meeting. More

  • Dr. med. Hendrik Sager, a DZHK young scientist from the German Heart Centre Munich has received a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft which ist endowed with 335.000 Euro. With grants the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft is encouraging the implementation of research projects with high scientific quality and originality according to international Standards.
  • A paper published by Prof. Dr. Martin Uecker of the University Medical Center Göttingen and colleagues has been honored at the annual meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine as the best-cited paper of the year 2014 of the journal Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. The title of this work is "ESPIRiT - An Eigenvalue Approach to Autocalibrating Parallel MRI: Where SENSE meets GRAPPA". More

  • Prof. Dr. Johannes Backs from the University Hospital Heidelberg has received the Arthur-Weber-Preis 2017 which is endowed with 10.000 Euro.
  • Prof. Dr. Konstantinos Stellos from the University Hospital of the Goethe University Frankfurt has received the Oskar-Lapp-Forschungspreis 2017 which is endowed with 12.000 Euro.
  • Dr. Tobias Petzold from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich has received the Franz-Maximilian-Groedel-Forschungspreis 2017 which is endowed with 5.000 Euro.

  • Member of the Young-DZHK Dong Wang was selected as Vivien Thomas Young Investigators Award Finalist. Dong Wang performed his Medical Doctoral Thesis in the Stem Cell and Immunobiology (TSI) Laboratory (Heisenberg-Group of Prof. Dr. med. Sonja Schrepfer) at the University Heart Center Hamburg (UHZ), and has been selected as a finalist for the award based on his research, entitled, "Local microRNA modulation is feasible: A novel anti-miR-21-eluting stent prevents in-stent restenosis." Wang's work was presented at the American Heart Association's annual meeting in Chicago on November 16th, 2014.
  • Frankfurt Cardiologist and DZHK young scientist PD Dr. med.   • Frankfurt Cardiologist and DZHK-Nachwuchswissenschaftler PD Dr. med. Konstantinos Stellos of University Medical Center Frankfurt, Medical Clinic III/Cardiology and Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration receives the Inge-Edler-Forschungsstipendium this year. Stellos was awarded the advancement award in the context of the autumn conference of the German Cardiac Society (DGK) in Düsseldorf. This grant funds young scientists for one year to implement their research projects in the field of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). With this prize, the ISHR appreciates Prof. Eschenhagen's outstanding achievements concerning cardiovascular research.
  • Prof. Dr. Carsten Tschöpe, assistant medical director of the Department of Cardiology and Pulmonology at Charité Campus Benjamin Franklin (CBF) in Berlin, has been honored with the Arthur-Weber prize (€ 10.000) by the German Cardiac Society for his outstanding work in development of new therapy options for heart failure and cardiomyopathy.
  • Dr. Justus Stenzig, Institute for Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), has been granted the 2nd prize at the Young Investigator Award Competition 2012 by the European Section of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR).
  • Doreen Stimpel, Institute for Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), has been honored with the Young Investigator Award 2012 in Basic Science Research by the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

  • Prof. Dr. Martin Borggrefe, director of the 1st Medical Clinic and Prof. Dobromir Dobrev, director of the Department of Experimental Cardiology, both at the DZHK partner site Heidelberg / Mannheim, have received the Outstanding Achievement Award by the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society for their lifetime achievement. Both of them are in a leading position regarding development of new procedures for treatment of arrhythmias.

  • Prof. Dr. Thomas Eschenhagen, director of the Institute for Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) and chairman of the DZHK-Board of Directors has been elected member of the The Grants Committee on Collaborative Research Centresby the senate of the German Research Foundation for three years (2012 – 2014).

June 2011

  • Dr. Johannes Backs, Cardiologist at the Heidelberg Medical University Hospital, has been awarded the Klaus-Georg-und-Sigrid-Hengstberger-Forschungsstipendium, worth 50,000 Euro, of the German Cardiac Society for his research in the context of the multifunction protein CaMKll and chronic cardiac insufficiency.
  • Dr. Patrick A. Schweizer, Cardiologist at the Heidelberg University Hospital, receives the Woldemar-Mobitz-Forschungspreis 2011, worth 6,000 Euro, of the German Cardiac Society for his research on the emergence of heart rhythm.

April 2011

  • Olympia Bikou and PD Dr. Dierk Thomas, working group on molecular and translational cardiac electrophysiology of Heidelberg Medical University Hospital's department for cardiology, have been awarded the Wolfgang-Trautwein-Forschungspreis 2011, worth 10,000 Euro, for their success in the context of gene therapy and atrial fibrillation. The price will be presented at the annual meeting of the German Cardiac Society in Mannheim (27.-30. April).
