With the National Registry, the Competence Network for Congenital Heart Defects provides data and samples from more than 55,000 patients. Over the past 20 years, it has thereby created a unique database for independent international and multicenter research. The DZHK has funded the research network from 2015 until the end of 2021.
"For the quality of life of patients and optimal medical care across the lifespan, many scientific foundations have yet to be established in the first place. This makes it all the more important to maintain and further develop the research infrastructure at the Competence Network," says Anselm Uebing. This infrastructure is unparalleled internationally and offers a great opportunity for Germany as a research location, even in the field of acquired cardiovascular diseases, says the new spokesman of the board.
Uebing succeeds Professor Hashim Abdul-Khaliq, who represented the Competence Network for 13 years. The renowned pediatric cardiologist from Saarland University Hospital remains active as a member of the research network's steering committee.
